African iGaming Alliance and Association of Gaming Operators of Kenya Sign MOU to Strengthen Industry Cooperation in Kenya and Across Africa
Nairobi, Kenya – 20 August 2026 – The African iGaming Alliance (AiA) and the Association of Gaming Operators of Kenya (AGOK) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), establishing a framework for closer cooperation on key issues affecting the regulated gaming and iGaming industry in Kenya and across the African continent.
The MoU was signed by Peter Emolemo Kesitilwe, Chief Executive Officer of the African iGaming Alliance, and Dr. John Mutua, Chief Executive Officer of the Association of Gaming Operators of Kenya.
The agreement brings together AiA’s Pan-African industry mandate and AGOK’s representation of licensed gaming operators in Kenya, with both organisations recognising the increasing importance of cooperation between national industry associations and continental industry bodies.
Under the MoU, AiA and AGOK will work together on areas of mutual interest including regulatory and public policy engagement, responsible and safer gambling, consumer protection, taxation, licensing and compliance, AML/CFT, research and market intelligence, technology and innovation, payments, and measures to address illegal and unlicensed gambling and improve market channelisation.
The partnership will also facilitate greater exchange of research, regulatory developments, and industry insights between Kenya and the wider African gaming ecosystem. It is intended to enable experiences and developments from Kenya to contribute to broader African discussions while giving AGOK and its members greater access to relevant research, developments, and good practices emerging across the continent.
Commenting on the signing, Peter Emolemo Kesitilwe, CEO of the African iGaming Alliance, said: “Kenya is one of Africa’s most important and dynamic gaming markets, and what happens here increasingly has relevance beyond Kenya’s borders. This MoU reflects AiA’s belief that building sustainable and well-regulated gaming markets across Africa requires stronger cooperation between national industry associations and Pan-African institutions.
“Our partnership with AGOK will create an important bridge between developments in Kenya and the wider continental conversation. We look forward to working with John and the AGOK team on responsible and safer gambling, evidence-based regulation and taxation, AML/CFT, tackling illegal gambling and improving channelisation, as well as sharing research and good practices that can contribute to a sustainable regulated industry.”
Dr. John Mutua, CEO of the Association of Gaming Operators of Kenya, said: “The signing of this MoU with the African iGaming Alliance is an important step in strengthening the connection between Kenya’s regulated gaming industry and the wider African gaming ecosystem. As AGOK, our priority remains the development of a responsible, sustainable and appropriately regulated gaming sector in Kenya.
“Through this partnership, we will be able to exchange knowledge and research, learn from developments across other African jurisdictions and contribute Kenya’s own experiences to the continental dialogue. We believe that collaboration of this nature can support better policy outcomes, stronger consumer protection and a more sustainable environment for licensed operators.”
The two organisations will also explore opportunities to collaborate on conferences, workshops, seminars, webinars, stakeholder roundtables, capacity-building programmes, policy papers and research initiatives involving industry participants, regulators and other stakeholders.
Responsible and safer gambling will be a particular area of cooperation, including public awareness and education, consumer protection, responsible marketing and advertising practices, industry good practices, research, training and wider Africa-focused safer gambling initiatives.
The MoU respects the independence and respective mandates of both organisations, with AiA continuing its Pan-African role and AGOK continuing to represent the interests of its members and the regulated gaming industry within Kenya.
The agreement will run for an initial period of three years, with provision for renewal by mutual agreement.
