Botswana Gambling Authority Hosts Workshop to Promote Responsible Gambling

The Gambling Authority of Botswana recently hosted a workshop at the Masa Square Hotel to advance the implementation of its 2023–2028 Strategy for Excessive Gambling Prevention and Rehabilitation.
This session was attended by operators it served as a critical step in aligning gambling operators with a unified vision of promoting responsible gambling and minimizing harm within the community.
During the workshop, operators were briefed on their specific regulatory responsibilities, including implementing robust player protection measures, raising public awareness, and contributing directly to prevention programs. These collaborative efforts are overseen by the Excessive Gambling Prevention and Rehabilitation Committee to ensure the industry meets its social obligations and promotes responsible gambling practices.
Central to this five-year plan is the Authority’s mandate to develop and deploy evidence-based programs designed to prevent addictive gambling behaviors. The strategy also focuses on strengthening rehabilitation and support systems for affected individuals, specifically highlighting the importance of professional counseling and self-exclusion initiatives.
The initiative further emphasizes the role of research and data-driven interventions in identifying risk factors and shaping evidence-based policies that respond to emerging trends in gambling behavior. By fostering closer collaboration between regulators, operators, and other key stakeholders, the Authority aims to strengthen oversight, enhance transparency, and promote compliance across the sector. This approach is intended to better protect vulnerable groups, encourage responsible gambling practices, and ensure long-term sustainability.
