Botswana Gambling Authority Social Club Donates IV Fluids to Strengthen Healthcare at Princess Marina Hospital

The Botswana Gambling Authority Social Club donated 1,200 liters of IV fluid to Princess Marina Hospital (PMH) to help strengthen the nation’s healthcare infrastructure.

Botswana’s healthcare system serves about 2.3–2.5 million people and is structured around a network of public facilities, including three national referral hospitals, district and primary hospitals, hundreds of clinics, health posts, and mobile stops. Despite having approximately 1.8 hospital beds per 1,000 people and spending around 6% of GDP on health, the system faces significant resource shortages, including a lack of essential medicines, limited staffing, and insufficient infrastructure. These issues were highlighted during a public health emergency in 2025 that disrupted services and postponed non-urgent procedures.

The donation of 1,200 liters of IV fluid provides crucial support to frontline healthcare workers, ensuring that patients at Princess Marina Hospital can access essential treatments promptly and without resource shortages. This staff-led initiative serves as a vital platform for shaping the future of the nation’s healthcare system. The engagement went beyond simply delivering medical supplies, evolving into meaningful discussions on innovative solutions, policy improvements, and sustainable strategies to enhance national health and well-being.

The handover was officiated by Acting CEO Moruntshi Kemorwale and Social Club Chairman Tumelo Batshu, along with members of the executive team. Representatives from the hospital who received the donation included Tshepo Machacha, the Hospital Superintendent; Cheneso Siku, the Matron; Mpho Mabuse, the Chief Pharmacist; and Keemenao Sampisi, the Public Relations Officer. During the ceremony, Dr. Tshepo Machacha used the occasion as an advocacy platform, emphasizing that the resilience of the health system heavily depends on proactive lifestyle choices by both individuals and organizations.

The team’s coordination played a vital role in mobilizing resources, fostering teamwork, and ensuring the initiative’s success. Their combined efforts exemplify how leadership at various levels can mobilize grassroots compassion to bolster the country’s healthcare infrastructure when it is most needed.

This gesture aligns with the broader institutional mandate of the Botswana Gambling Authority to promote the well-being of all. By empowering its workforce to take the lead in social impact, the Authority reinforces the vital connection between a strong health system and a stable, well-governed society. This ensures that the Authority’s impact extends beyond regulatory duties, helping to foster a culture where social responsibility is a core value of the organization.
