Botswana’s “Motshameko O Phepha” Campaign Expands Nationwide

The Gambling Authority of Botswana has continued extending its Motshameko O Phepha campaign across the country as part of its continued commitment to promote responsible gambling and protect communities.
Launched by Hon. Tiroeaone Kealeboga Ntsima, Minister of Trade and Entrepreneurship in September, the initiative promotes responsible gambling and seeks to balance the industry’s economic potential with protections for families and young people. The campaign reflects the government’s commitment to ensuring that gambling contributes to national development while safeguarding citizens’ well-being.
Now in its third week, the Motshameko O Phepha roadshow is engaging communities across Botswana through educational activities, counselling outreach, and compliance awareness visits. The current leg of the tour, running from October 27 to November 1, includes activations in Chadibe, Shakawe, Tloaneng, Mokobeng, Xamasere, Mogonye, Tewane, Sepopa, Pilane, Mogome, Ikoga, Bokaa, Etsha 13, Malolwane, Palapye, Etsha 6, and Sikwane. Each stop will host community interactions at local Shops or Kgotla venues between 10:00 hrs and 20:00 hrs.
Minister Ntsima has linked the campaign to Botswana’s Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) principles, stressing that the growth of the gambling sector must be guided by good governance, inclusion, and sustainability. The campaign’s approach combines national visibility with strong local partnerships, demonstrating how regulation can protect citizens while supporting responsible industry growth.

Motshameko O Phepha has continued to build awareness through both physical activations and digital outreach. The Authority’s toll-free helpline and online counselling platforms have also been promoted to ensure that support is accessible to anyone affected by gambling-related harm.
As the Road to 500 Sites campaign moves into more regions, the Authority plans to expand public education and reinforce its commitment to safe and transparent gaming practices. The Authority remains focused on creating a responsible gambling environment that empowers citizens while ensuring the sector’s sustainable contribution to Botswana’s economy.
