Dr Bawumia: I will abolish betting tax, E-Levy, VAT on electricity, Emissions in Ghana

Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the Vice President of Ghana and leader of the New Patriotic Party, has promised to eliminate tax on electronic transactions, betting, and emissions if he wins the presidency in the upcoming general elections.

“Taxes on gambling will be scrapped under my administration.” He said during a lecture on February 7, 2024, at the UPSA auditorium.

“There will be no emissions tax under my administration. 15% tax on electricity will be abolished by 2025 if it’s still on our administration.” He further added.

The Ghana government implemented a 10% tax on all gambling winnings in 2023, introduced a 15% VAT on electricity in January 2024, and announced the emissions levy for engine vehicles starting in February 2024.

In November of last year, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia was elected to lead the New Patriotic Party into the December 7 polls. In alignment with his goal to secure victory in the elections, he presented his manifesto outlining his economic plans for the people of Ghana.

Dr. Bawumia’s speech centers around the theme of ‘Ghana’s Next Chapter: Selfless Leadership and Bold Solutions for the Future.

Ghana’s next general elections are scheduled for the 7th of December, 2024.
