Gauteng Province, South Africa, Invites Nominations for Appointment to the Gauteng Gambling Board

The Gauteng Department of Economic Development has officially invited interested individuals, sector representatives, and stakeholders to submit nominations for appointment to the Gauteng Gambling Board.

According to the Gauteng Gambling Act, 1995, the board must consist of between eight and twelve members who are fit and proper persons appointed by the responsible Member. The members should possess a diverse range of expertise, including at least two practicing attorneys or advocates with no less than five years of experience, one registered accountant and auditor with at least five years of experience in public practice, and individuals actively involved in the tourism industry or possessing proven business acumen or knowledge of the gambling and horse-racing industries. Additionally, the board should include representatives with experience in welfare, community, or socio-economic development, as well as in labour relations. The final list of appointees must include both genders to ensure balanced representation.

Prospective nominees should be aware of strict disqualification criteria when considering appointment to the GGB. An individual cannot be appointed if they are not a citizen of the Republic residing in Gauteng, are currently a public servant or have been one in the past 12 months, are a member of Parliament, a member of a provincial legislature, or a member of a local authority. Furthermore, those holding a controlling or financial interest in any gambling activity or who have been convicted of offences involving dishonesty, such as theft, fraud, or perjury, and sentenced to imprisonment without the option of a fine, are ineligible.
