NLA and GMTF Partner to Bridge Gaps in Ghana’s Healthcare System

The National Lottery Authority (NLA) of Ghana has deepened its commitment to social impact by partnering with the Ghana Medical Trust Fund (GMTF) to improve healthcare delivery across the country.
On October 22, a delegation from the GMTF visited the NLA’s headquarters to explore collaborative opportunities aimed at upgrading hospital infrastructure and providing essential medical equipment nationwide.
The meeting brought together key officials, including NLA Director-General Mohammed Abdul-Salam, Deputy Director-General Eric Wadie, Director of Corporate Communications Afua Offie, and GMTF Administrator Obuobia Darko-Opoku. All parties expressed optimism about the partnership’s potential to make a tangible difference in Ghana’s healthcare sector.
According to the NLA, “Supporting the Ghana Medical Trust Fund aligns with our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) objectives and fulfills our mandate to channel lottery proceeds toward initiatives that benefit society.”

GMTF Administrator Obuobia Darko-Opoku highlighted that the Fund, established under Act 114, has begun a nationwide assessment of hospitals, revealing critical shortages in infrastructure and diagnostic tools such as MRI and CT scan machines, dialysis units, and breast screening facilities.
She noted that many hospitals are under-resourced and unable to deliver adequate care, urging corporate organizations like the NLA to collaborate with the Fund to bridge these gaps and enhance healthcare delivery.
The NLA further stated its readiness to explore sustainable support mechanisms for the Fund, including project-based initiatives and annual contributions to ensure consistent and long-term impact.
