NLA Donates Wheelchairs to Students at Grand Kru Technical College to Enhance Educational Access

The National Lottery Authority- Liberia (NLA), through its Region Two Office, recently donated two brand-new wheelchairs to physically challenged students at Grand Kru Technical College. This highlights the Authority’s ongoing commitment to promoting inclusivity, enhancing mobility, and ensuring that persons living with disabilities across Liberia have equal access to education.

The beneficiaries of this donation, Thomas Doe and Joseph K.G. Nyugba, noted that the support would significantly boost their morale and determination to excel in their academic pursuits. According to the college administration, the wheelchairs are expected to be transformative, easing the students’ daily movement on campus and improving their overall attendance and participation.

Mr. Ateo W. Seebo, speaking during the presentation on behalf of the NLA’s management, the Authority’s Region Two Assistant Director, said, “Education is a fundamental right, and no individual should be hindered from achieving their dreams due to mobility constraints. This donation is a demonstration of our continued commitment to supporting vulnerable groups and ensuring that they remain in school and succeed.”

Advancing the Education Empowerment Program (EEP), this initiative aligns with the NLA’s broader efforts to support students living with disabilities by covering registration fees and providing financial aid at various public universities and community colleges. This follow-up support builds on previous NLA efforts in December 2025, when wheelchairs were provided to students at William V.S. Tubman University and Grand Gedeh Community Colleges.

The NLA’s efforts at Grand Kru Technical College are part of a broader statutory mandate to advocate for the rights and welfare of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs). The Authority recently reaffirmed its partnership with the Alliance on Disability, led by Ms. Anna Vines, to focus on the social and economic inclusion of the disabled community throughout Liberia.

The Authority’s commitment to PWDs extends beyond mobility to include humanitarian outreach, as demonstrated by the recent ration distribution exercise in Nimba County, which provided essential supplies to vulnerable communities. It also includes sustainable support through pledged ongoing resources, such as potential assistance with tuition fees and internet connectivity, to ensure the long-term success of PWD-focused initiatives.

Through these strategic social interventions, the National Lottery Authority remains steadfast in its mission to contribute to national development and empower all Liberian citizens to reach their full potential.
