Safaricom Reports Strong Half-Year Results with 52.1% Growth in Group Net Income

Safaricom unveiled its 2025/2026 Half-Year Results at the Michael Joseph Center, posting a 52.1% rise in net income to KES 42.8B and boosting community impact. The company’s results reflect solid growth momentum in its home market, as well as improving performance in Ethiopia despite pricing and currency reform challenges.

Strong Growth in Kenya

Safaricom’s Kenya business delivered a robust performance, recording a 22.6% growth in net income to KES 58.2 billion, supported by a 9.3% jump in service revenue to KES 194.0 billion and a 13.1% rise in EBIT to KES 89.5 billion.

Key growth drivers included M-PESA, which saw a 14% increase in revenue to KES 88.1 billion, and mobile connectivity services, which grew by 5.3% to KES 96.2 billion. The company also boosted investment in infrastructure, with capital expenditure rising 11% year-on-year to KES 34.2 billion.

Improved Performance in Ethiopia

In Ethiopia, Safaricom continued to make significant progress as losses narrowed by 20.1% year-on-year to KES (15.5 billion). Service revenue more than doubled, rising 136% to KES 6.2 billion, while the customer base expanded by 83.7% to reach 11.1 million.

Voice revenue grew 328.5% to KES 1.4 billion, and mobile data revenue increased 102.2% to KES 4.1 billion, reflecting growing adoption and usage among Ethiopian consumers.

“This is a strong set of results, and a solid start to our Vision 2030 strategy cycle, maintaining our FY26 guidance. We remain focused on executing our strategy through segment-led execution and integrated solutions,” said Peter Ndegwa, Safaricom Group CEO.

Deepening Community Investment

In addition to its financial success, Safaricom has accelerated its social investment efforts through two major initiatives; the Safaricom Foundation Ethiopia and the Citizens of the Future program. The Citizens of the Future initiative will benefit over 500 schools across Kenya through infrastructure upgrades, 10,000 scholarships, and digital literacy training for more than 56,000 learners over the next five years.
