Zimbabwe Police Ban Officers from Entering Betting Shops in Uniform to Protect Image
Harare, Zimbabwe — The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has implemented a new policy prohibiting officers from entering betting shops while dressed in their official uniforms.
The move is part of an effort to enhance the public perception of the police force and maintain professionalism.
National Police Spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi, explained the reasoning behind the ban during the weekend at the National Forum on Responsible Betting, which was hosted by H-Metro in collaboration with the Lotteries and Gaming Board in Harare.
He stated, “Seeing law enforcers in gambling environments in their uniforms does not give a good picture of the country’s police force.”

Recent circulation of images showing uniformed police officers inside betting shops on various social media platforms has sparked criticism and concerns about the professionalism within the force.
While the directive has now been made public, it remains to be seen whether officers will adhere to the new regulation. Reports indicate that some officers may have turned to betting themselves, a situation reportedly driven by Zimbabwe’s ongoing economic hardships.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police continues to emphasize the importance of maintaining the integrity and respect of law enforcement agencies across the nation.
