Morocco Launches Gamification Lab to Propel Gaming Start-Ups and Digital Economy

Morocco is taking a major step to strengthen its position in Africa’s gaming and digital sectors with the launch of the Gamification Lab, a government-backed initiative aimed at accelerating the growth of local gaming start-ups and expanding gamification solutions across key industries.
The program is the result of a strategic partnership between the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication (MJCC), the Caisse de Dépôt et de Gestion (CDG), and CDG Invest. The agreement was formalized in Rabat on November 13, 2025, with Minister Mohamed Mehdi Bensaid and CDG Director General Khalid Safir signing the documents to underline their shared commitment to fostering innovation in the Moroccan gaming ecosystem.
“This initiative is part of the national strategy to support small cultural businesses, especially those active in video games,” said Minister Bensaid. He emphasized the sector’s rapid expansion, noting that Morocco now counts around 40 gaming start-ups, compared with just two or three in 2021.

The Gamification Lab will establish a national platform to promote Moroccan-developed gamification solutions. These solutions will be made available to both public and private sector organizations, reflecting the program’s broad potential impact in education, health, tourism, employment, and culture. The platform will also facilitate structured calls for proposals, tailored agreements, and skills development programs for participating start-ups, helping them gain visibility and expand their reach.
The program also aims to promote the use of gamification as a tool serving the collective interest in essential sectors, thereby contributing to the development of an inclusive and creative digital economy.
The launch follows earlier initiatives to strengthen professional skills in Morocco’s gaming industry, including structured educational and incubation programs. Key examples include the Video Game Creator Program, a one-year certified training for young Moroccans in partnership with ISART Digital, the International University of Rabat, and ISMAC and the Video Game Incubation Program, which provides start-ups with technical training, mentorship, grants, and networking opportunities.
The implementation of the Gamification Lab will be structured around identifying the gamification needs of public and private stakeholder, signing specific agreements with beneficiaries, and launching Calls for Expressions of Interest to select and support Moroccan game development studios.
