Safaricom records its highest-ever dividend payout of KES 80.13 billion for FY2026

Safaricom PLC has declared its highest-ever dividend payout of KES 80.13 billion, consisting of a final dividend of KES 1.15 per share for the financial year ended 31 March 2026.
At the company’s 18th Annual General Meeting, shareholders approved this final dividend, bringing the total payout for FY26 to KES 2.00 per share.
This record-breaking payout follows a period of robust financial performance and strategic resilience. Over the past three years, Safaricom held dividends steady while navigating initial setup costs and currency fluctuations in Ethiopia. However, with Safaricom Ethiopia now on track to break even in the coming financial year, the company has resumed its dividend growth trajectory.
Reflecting on the company’s progress, Dr. Peter Ndegwa, Group CEO of Safaricom PLC, stated: “This has been a defining year for us. We marked 25 years of connecting and driving transformation through our services and community involvement. We did this while delivering our strongest financial performance yet.”
The financial surge is further evidenced by Safaricom’s market performance. The company’s share price rose by 50.3% during the financial year, pushing its market capitalization to KES 1.44 trillion in the weeks leading up to the AGM. This growth coincided with a shift in shareholding, as Vodacom Group increased its stake to 55%. This move aims to deepen the partnership and provide Safaricom with greater regional reach and technical expertise.

Looking ahead, the company is focused on its Vision 2030 strategy, which seeks to transform Safaricom from a traditional telecommunications provider into a broader technology entity.
Key priorities include leveraging artificial intelligence to enhance customer service, expanding 5G and high-speed broadband coverage, and increasing access to affordable smartphones.
Adil Khawaja, Chairman of the Board, Safaricom PLC, said: “We were equally pleased to note the completion of the transaction increasing Vodacom Group’s shareholding in Safaricom this year. It deepens a partnership that goes back to our earliest years, and gives us access to the scale, expertise and regional reach of one of Africa’s leading technology groups as we build towards 2030.”
