NWGB Staff Meeting Covers Organisational Performance, Regulatory Updates, Compliance, and Workplace Culture

The North West Gambling Board (NWGB) convened a staff meeting at the Mmabatho Palms Hotel and Casino, bringing employees together to discuss the Board’s strategic priorities, regulatory responsibilities, and workplace culture.

A key focus was the North West Gambling Amendment Act, 2026 (Act 3 of 2026), and the Board’s overall performance. The Act updates the province’s gambling legislation and aligns it with South Africa’s National Gambling Act, 2004. Its provisions include revised definitions, changes to gambling and taxation provisions, and expanded inspection powers, including administrative inspection warrants, to help address unlicensed gambling.

Staff also discussed how the organisational structure can better support the Board’s performance requirements, reinforcing the link between strategic planning and effective service delivery.

The meeting then turned to the administrative systems that support the Board’s work. Staff received guidance on implementing the Board’s Promotion of Access to Information Act (PAIA) Manual, while internal file-planning procedures were reviewed to strengthen workflow and records management. Together, these discussions highlighted the importance of ensuring that everyday practices meet statutory obligations and support the Board’s wider goals.

Beyond policies and procedures, the meeting addressed the way employees work together. Discussions on respect and professional conduct underscored the Board’s aim to maintain a safe, peaceful, and harmonious workplace.

The meeting concluded with a renewed commitment to organisational excellence, staff development, and professionalism. By bringing together strategic planning, regulatory compliance, and workplace culture, the NWGB reaffirmed its commitment to advancing its mandate while supporting its staff.
