African iGaming Alliance Hosts Regulatory Dialogue at AGE Conference 2026

The African iGaming Alliance (AiA) recently hosted an engagement session with regulators from across the continent during the AFRICA GAMING EXPO (AGE) 2026.
The third edition of the premier pan-African gaming, betting, and fintech event, the Africa Gaming Expo (AGE) 2026, was held from March 24–27, 2026, at the Eko Convention Centre in Lagos, Nigeria. The event brought together regulators, operators, investors, technology providers, and policymakers to shape the future of Africa’s gaming ecosystem. A major focus of the conference was regulation, compliance, and Africa’s growth potential in gaming. Through panel discussions, keynote sessions, exhibitions, and exclusive briefings, participants explored both the challenges and opportunities within Africa’s rapidly evolving gaming and betting markets.
Among the sessions was an engagement session hosted by the African iGaming Alliance. The primary goal of the discussion emphasized that regulators, operators, industry leaders, and stakeholders across Africa must prioritize collaboration over fragmentation. By working together, stakeholders can harmonize regulatory frameworks, share critical data and insights, and develop common standards that promote fairness, transparency, and accountability across jurisdictions.

Regulators across Africa’s gaming and betting industry face key challenges, including widespread illegal or offshore operators, fragmented regulations, and the rapid shift to digital platforms that overwhelm existing laws. Additionally, governments struggle to develop taxation policies that balance revenue generation with market growth. To address these challenges, regulators from various jurisdictions agree on the need for practical, enforceable frameworks that support sustainable market development while protecting consumers.
The AiA reiterated its role: “Our role remains clear, to act as a bridge between regulators and industry, supporting evidence-based policy development, sharing market insights, and fostering cooperation across African markets.”
The meeting served as a platform for open dialogue between regulatory leaders and industry stakeholders, fostering constructive engagement and mutual understanding. It provided an opportunity to address arising issues within the industry, such as illegal gambling activities, evolving taxation frameworks across jurisdictions, and the practical enforcement of regulations in an increasingly digital and borderless environment. The discussions encouraged collaboration, transparency, and the sharing of best practices to ensure the development of a fair, sustainable, and well-regulated industry.
“We thank all regulators who participated and contributed to this important discussion,” said AiA.
