ALGA and the North West Gambling Board Launch Campaign to Combat Illegal Gambling

The African Lotteries & Gaming Association (ALGA) partnered with the North West Gambling Board (NWGB) to launch public outreach campaign aimed at eradicating illegal gambling and promoting responsible gaming.

Operating under the theme “Play Smart. Stay Legal – Together We Gamble Responsibly!”, the campaign signifies a strategic shift from mere awareness to tangible action. By aligning ALGA’s Risk to Responsibility framework with the NWGB’s local initiatives, the collaboration aims to reinforce compliance standards, empower individuals to make informed decisions, and crack down on illegal operations across South Africa.

ALGA seeks to build a strong foundation for the sector by involving key stakeholders such as the National Gambling Board (NGB) of South Africa, the South African Police Service (SAPS), and the North West Department of Economic Development, Environment, Conservation and Tourism (DEDECT). The primary goal is to raise public awareness, helping individuals recognize the risks associated with illegal gambling while actively encouraging responsible alternatives.

ALGA emphasizes that this collaboration demonstrates the organizational value of working together to ensure Africa can achieve true sustainability in the gaming industry. The organizations view each public interaction and pledge as a foundational step toward a broader movement that opposes illegal activities and drives meaningful change across the continent.

A campaign of this caliber serves to build public awareness on responsible gambling, strengthen compliance standards, and foster collaboration across the gaming and lotteries sector. We look forward to furthering the conversation and driving tangible, meaningful change across the continent, one initiative at a time!” commented ALGA.

Led by NWGB Chief Executive Officer Mr. Boitumelo Qalinge, this initiative marks a unified commitment to protecting communities and strengthening the integrity of the gaming sector. It ensures that the fight against illegal operations is a collective effort that safeguards communities and upholds the integrity of South Africa’s entire gaming and lotteries industry.
