ARGN Launches Africa-Wide Safer Gaming Month Campaign Across 11 Countries, Calls for Collective Action

Under the theme “It Starts with YOU,” the African Responsible Gaming Network brings together stakeholders across 11 African countries for a month-long campaign promoting responsible gaming, player education, and stronger protection against gambling-related harm.

AFRICA, NOVEMBER 2026 – The African Responsible Gaming Network (ARGN) has announced a continent-wide Safer Gaming Month campaign for November 2026, bringing together partners and stakeholders across 11 African countries to promote responsible gaming, strengthen player protection, and raise awareness of gambling-related harm.

The campaign, themed “It Starts with YOU,” represents a collective effort to make responsible gaming a shared priority across Africa, encouraging individuals, gaming operators, regulators, policymakers, civil society organisations, and other stakeholders to take an active role in creating safer gaming environments.

As gambling participation continues to evolve across the continent, particularly through the rapid expansion of digital and mobile gaming platforms, the campaign seeks to draw attention to the importance of informed participation, responsible advertising, player education, early intervention, and accessible support for people experiencing gambling-related difficulties.

Four Weeks of Action, One Shared Mission

Throughout November, ARGN will organise the campaign around four thematic priorities, each addressing an important aspect of responsible gaming.

Week One: Advertising Influence

The opening week will examine the influence of gambling advertising, promotional campaigns, sponsorships, and marketing practices on public perceptions and gambling participation. Particular attention will be given to the exposure of young and vulnerable audiences and the importance of responsible advertising standards.

Week Two: Player Education

The second week will focus on empowering individuals with the knowledge and tools to make informed decisions. Discussions will highlight gambling risks, warning signs of harmful gambling behaviour, responsible participation, and available support services. The campaign will also encourage individuals to understand their gambling risk through the Problem Gambling Severity Index (PGSI) self-assessment.

Week Three: Africa in Action

The third week will spotlight initiatives, partnerships, and practical interventions taking place across participating African countries. It will provide an opportunity for organisations, advocates, and stakeholders to share experiences, highlight local challenges, and demonstrate how collective action can strengthen responsible gaming across the continent.

Week Four: Raising the Standard

The final week will focus on strengthening industry standards, regulatory collaboration, player protection frameworks, and institutional accountability. It will encourage meaningful engagement between regulators, operators, policymakers, and responsible gaming organisations towards building safer and more sustainable gaming environments.

A Continental Commitment to Player Protection

Through this initiative, ARGN seeks to move responsible gaming conversations beyond individual organisations and establish a stronger culture of collaboration across Africa.

The involvement of partners across 11 countries reflects the importance of regional cooperation in addressing gambling-related challenges that increasingly extend beyond national borders.

The Network believes that protecting players requires more than awareness campaigns. It requires sustained education, effective regulation, responsible industry practices, early intervention, accessible treatment and support services, and a shared commitment to safeguarding vulnerable populations.

Particular attention will also be given to protecting minors and preventing underage gambling through stronger awareness, age verification, and responsible industry practices.

It Starts with YOU

The campaign calls on individuals, professionals, industry stakeholders, community organisations, and the media to participate by sharing educational messages, engaging in public conversations, and encouraging safer gambling choices.

ARGN will provide campaign materials to support participation and help amplify the message across different audiences throughout November.

The Network emphasises that responsible gaming is not solely the responsibility of regulators or gaming operators. Individuals, families, communities, and institutions all have a role to play.

With 11 African countries participating in a shared month-long effort, ARGN hopes to strengthen public awareness, encourage meaningful partnerships, and advance a more coordinated approach to responsible gaming and player protection across the continent.

11 Countries. One Continent. One Month. One Shared Commitment.

Safer Choices. Safer Play. It Starts with YOU.
