Bclb Launches Responsible Gaming Drive In Collaboration With Agok, Focused On Community Impact
NAIROBI, 16th May 2025. The Betting Control and Licensing Board (BCLB) in collaboration with Association of Gaming Operators of Kenya (AGOK), have launched a responsible gaming campaign aimed at promoting safer gaming practices and addressing the societal impacts of gambling.
In her speech, BCLB Chairperson Dr. Jane Mwikali Makau emphasized that the campaign represents a critical step in safeguarding vulnerable communities. “This initiative is more than just a message—it is a national movement to combat the risks of unchecked gambling, which can have devastating effects on individuals, families, and society at large,” she stated during the event held at the Railways Training Institute in Nairobi.
The campaign will feature a multi-agency approach, including collaboration with the Ministry of Health through the Counselling Psychology and Addiction Services Board. Key components include enhanced counselling and referral networks, mental health support systems, and widespread awareness programs. A toll-free helpline and an 8-hour support call centre is at its final stages and will also be introduced next week, 19th May 2025, to provide immediate assistance to those in need.

AGOK, as a sponsor of the initiative, reaffirmed its commitment to responsible gaming. Sasa Krneta,AGOK Chairman highlighted the association’s role in supporting the campaign: “We are proud to stand alongside BCLB in this vital effort. Through our partnership, we are not only raising awareness on responsible gaming but also providing tangible support to communities, such as the food assistance program for families in South B.”
Dr. Makau commended AGOK for its collaboration, noting, “The gaming industry’s willingness to embrace ethical practices and social accountability is a positive sign of its evolution. This campaign reflects our shared commitment to the well-being of Kenyans.”
The gaming sector remains a significant contributor to Kenya’s economy, having paid over Ksh24 billion in taxes last year and created more than 10,000 direct jobs, with indirect benefits to at least 500,000 Kenyan citizens.
