Botswana Initiates Nationwide Review of Gaming and Gambling Policy

The Ministry of Trade and Entrepreneurship, in partnership with the Gambling Authority and the Botswana Institute for Development Policy Analysis (BIDPA), has officially launched a comprehensive review of the Gaming and Gambling Policy of 2002.
The consultation for the national Gaming and Gambling Policy review officially commenced this morning at the Majestic 5 Hotel in Palapye. Attendees included representatives from government departments, the private sector, and parastatal institutions, fostering a comprehensive dialogue. This signifies the beginning of high-level discussions with a diverse group of stakeholders who are part of the industry.

This reform process aims to modernize the industry’s regulatory framework to better reflect the current economic and social landscape. To ensure the updated policy is inclusive and representative of the nation’s needs, the Gambling Authority has committed to a participatory approach, with officials scheduled to travel to three major regions across Botswana to engage directly with the public and relevant industry players.
The policy review focuses on several core pillars intended to benefit the nation. Central to the discussions are the promotion of economic growth and the implementation of robust responsible gambling measures. By updating these regulations, the Ministry and the Gambling Authority aim to improve the quality of life for citizens while ensuring a transparent and well-regulated gaming environment.
