Gamblepause Partners with Namibia Development Foundation Trust (NAMDEF) to Promote Responsible Gaming

Gamblepause Initiative Africa (Nigeria) and the Namibia Development Foundation Trust (NAMDEF) have entered into a strategic partnership to advance responsible gaming across the African continent.

With the continued growth of Africa’s iGaming market, responsible gambling has emerged as a pillar of sustainable development, ensuring player protection, regulatory compliance, and long-term trust in the sector.

This collaboration represents a unified front against the rising tide of gambling addiction, seeking to harmonize advocacy, research, and player protection initiatives across regional borders. The partnership comes at a critical time as African nations grapple with the rapid expansion of online betting platforms and unregulated informal gaming.

In Namibia, experts have warned that high youth unemployment has led many to view gambling as a desperate “income supplement,” often resulting in severe financial and psychological harm before help is sought.

The alliance is spearheaded by two prominent figures, Ladipo Abiose, the founder of Gamblepause Initiative Africa, and Dr. Jeremia (Jerry) Lucas Muadinohamba, a founding member of NAMDEF.

The core objectives of this collaboration are designed to address these systemic issues through a comprehensive approach. This includes education and prevention efforts, such as implementing culturally tailored awareness campaigns and school-based workshops to combat underage gambling.

Additionally, it focuses on early intervention by strengthening measures to identify gambling-related stress and debt, particularly in the workplace. Capacity building is also a key component, supporting regulators and industry stakeholders in developing a safer gaming ecosystem through evidence-based policies.

Finally, the collaboration aims to promote sustainable recovery by expanding access to counseling, rehabilitation services, and national self-exclusion systems. By combining Gamblepause’s clinical expertise with NAMDEF’s broad community development experience, which spans education, healthcare, and economic empowerment, the alliance aims to create a blueprint for responsible gaming that can be replicated across Africa.
