Ghana National Lottery Hosted Delegates From Washington and Lee University for Lottery’s Technological Knowhow Exchange

Ghana’s National Lottery Authority (NLA) hosted a delegation from Washington and Lee University for an academic exchange visit centered on lottery technology.
Ghana’s National Lottery Authority hosted a delegation from Washington and Lee University on May 12. The visit formed part of an academic exchange program with the University of Ghana. The group examined how the NLA uses technology in lottery operations and public service delivery. Students, professors, and a coordinator also observed live draw procedures and transparency checks.
The delegation, comprising 18 students, professors and a coordinator, visited the NLA on May 12, this year. This was as part of an exchange programme with the University of Ghana. The delegation explored the role of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in lottery operations and public service delivery.
Representatives from the NLA’s Strategy and Business Improvement (SBI) Department guided the group through lottery draw procedures at Brennan Hall. They providing insight into the systems and processes behind live draws.
The visiting students participated in the drawing of the five winning numbers during the Noonrush Draw and Afriluck Mid-Day Cash Draw. The visit comes as the NLA continues advancing its digital transformation agenda. In April, the authority outlined plans to transition lottery sales to electronic platforms by the third quarter of 2026. This will be a part of efforts to modernise Ghana’s lottery sector.
The programme concluded with a presentation led by operations and draw manager Kwaku Boakye Nimako, who demonstrated the authority’s draw machines, introduced panel members and explained the checks conducted before each draw.

The delegation also engaged with Mohammed Abdul Salam, NLA director general, who discussed the authority’s mandate, systems and the use of technology to strengthen transparency and efficiency in lottery operations.
