Guinea’s Lottery Drives Nationwide Cancer Awareness Campaign

Guinea’s National Lottery (LONAGUI) launched a nationwide campaign to combat breast and cervical cancer and partnered with the National Network of Rural Women of Guinea (RENAFERGUI) to provide free screenings, raise awareness, and expand health services during Pink October.

On October 26, hundreds of participants dressed in pink took part in a city-wide march under the slogan, “One step for life, one step for health.” The campaign concluded at the Kindia Youth Centre with training and awareness sessions for women, healthcare workers, and volunteers, emphasizing early screening and preventive care.

Jacqueline Coker, Advisor in charge of social actions to the Director General of LONAGUI, praised RENAFERGUI’s dedication and reaffirmed the lottery’s commitment to social responsibility. “This is part of our commitment to making gaming more responsible, by reinvesting profits in actions with a strong socio-economic impact. Women’s health, particularly in rural areas, remains a strategic priority of LONAGUI’s CSR policy,” she said

Building on last year’s initiative, which provided free cancer screenings in Kindia throughout the year, LONAGUI is expanding the program by funding medical equipment to reach remote rural areas. RENAFERGUI noted, “This lasting partnership not only contributes to saving lives, but also to strengthening local capacities in the prevention and early management of cancer.”

The campaign also featured Rose Espoir, the NGO founded by artist Sia Tolno, which conducted training sessions for volunteers, doctors, and health professionals. These sessions focused on screening techniques and community awareness strategies, ensuring the program’s benefits reach the wider population.

Through these efforts, LONAGUI demonstrates that the lottery is more than a game, turning profits into life-saving initiatives and making a meaningful social impact across Guinea.
