Kenya GRA Announces Opening of 2026 Licensing Applications

The Gambling Regulatory Authority (GRA) of Kenya has officially opened the application window for gambling licenses for the year 2026.

Established under the Gambling Control Act, 2025, the GRA is now consolidating its mandate to ensure that all gambling activities are conducted responsibly, transparently, and in strict alignment with national objectives.

The GRA has the exclusive statutory authority to license all forms of gambling in Kenya, ranging from the national lottery to the rapidly expanding online gambling sector. In a move that signals a comprehensive update of the regulatory environment, the Authority has announced that the validity of all existing licenses has been varied to expire on September 24th, 2026.

This deadline requires all current and aspiring operators, both local and foreign, to apply for new licenses in order to continue their operations legally within the country.

The Director General of the GRA, Peter M. Karimi, emphasized the authority’s commitment to supporting the industry while maintaining high standards of integrity. “We assure all applicants, businesses, investors, and the general public of our dedication to supporting the industry by ensuring integrity and fairness in licensed gambling activities, as required by law,” Karimi stated in the official notice.

The Authority urges all interested applicants to familiarize themselves with the detailed provisions of the Gambling Control Act, 2025, to ensure they meet both the operational and mandatory requirements for the new licenses.

Applications can be submitted through the Authority’s official channels, either by visiting the website at www.gra.go.ke and navigating to the GMS or by using the Application Portal at operator.gra.go.ke
