Lesotho Uses Mobile Raffles to Support Sports Development

Lesotho is planning to use mobile based raffle to support national sports development with the Lesotho Sport and Recreation Commission (LSRC) and its partner, Imajin & Fusion Lesotho, offering recurring cash prizes and a Chery Tiggo 4 Pro.

The objective of the project is to provide a new source of funding for sport; the amount available for grassroots and national programs will depend on the amount of money raised and eventually allocated to these initiatives.

On October 16 at AVANI Hotel & Casino, the LSRC and Imajin & Fusion Lesotho showcased a 2026 Chery Tiggo 4 Pro in advance of the main draw, which is set for November 27 at Maseru Mall.

Participants can enter via the raffle’s mobile application, the official LSRC website, or by entering *320# on a mobile device. Each entry is priced at M3 (US$0.18). Cash prizes of M5,000 (US$302), M10,000 (US$604), M15,000 (US$906), and M60,000 (US$3,624) are given out every week, and drawings take place every Friday. A vehicle is offered every 90 days.

According to LENA, Imajin & Fusion Lesotho invested US$200,000 (M3.30 million) for marketing, prizes, launch, operational systems, and the digital platform. Harness Technology and Splitz Marketing are also involved, offering USSD services, payment processing, revenue collection, mobile-money integration, daily settlement, reconciliation, reporting and transaction monitoring.

We cannot always wait for the government to do things for us when we have the responsibility and the potential to bring about change on our own. This initiative is not for me or the LSRC, but for Basotho and the future of sport in this country.

LSRC, President Baba Malephane

A multisector steering committee’s oversight, independent audits and public broadcasts of draws are among the precautions that the LSRC has established. The raffle’s revenue and net revenues allocated to sports have not been revealed by the commission and its specific licensing authorisation remains unconfirmed in the reports reviewed.
