North West Gambling Board Management Completes Three-Day SOP Training to Strengthen Regulatory Processes

Management and senior officials from the North West Gambling Board (NWGB) recently participated in a three-day training session on Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), reinforcing the Board’s commitment to good governance, operational efficiency, and regulatory excellence within the province’s gambling sector.

Held at Royal Aloe Lodge in Mahikeng, North West, South Africa, the training aimed to equip leadership with practical tools to ensure internal processes are standardised, transparent, and aligned with legislative and policy requirements. Strengthened SOPs provide a clear and legally sound framework for regulatory activities, guiding decision-making, compliance monitoring, and enforcement.

This internal capacity-building initiative complements NWGB’s broader strategic efforts, including its “Back to Basics” workshops. These collaborative programmes, conducted in partnership with the South African Police Service (SAPS), the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), and other stakeholders, focus on strengthening enforcement against illegal gambling activities.

The workshops address financial crime risks such as money laundering schemes that disguise illicit funds as gambling winnings, as well as links between illegal betting, organised crime, drug trafficking, and tax evasion. They also provide practical enforcement guidance, including the seizure of illegal machines and improving case preparation to support successful prosecutions. In addition, the programme extends into community outreach through learner awareness campaigns and school activations aimed at reducing underage gambling.
