Mr. Moruntshi Kemorwale is the New Chief Executive Officer at Botswana’s Gambling Authority.

Botswana’s Gambling Authority has officially confirmed Moruntshi Kemorwale as its new substantive Chief Executive Officer.

Mr Moruntshi Kemorwale was appointed by the Minister of Trade and Entrepreneurship, Hon. Tiroeaone Ntsima. Mr. Kemorwale officiates the role after 11 months of guiding the firm as an acting CEO.

Professional Background.

Kemorwale has been part of the Gambling Authority since its establishment in 2016, building an extensive career within the organisation. Over the years, he has held several senior leadership positions, including Chief of Staff. At this role, he led strategic planning, organisational performance monitoring, stakeholder engagement and responsible gambling programmes.

Before that, he served as Director of Responsible Gambling and Corporate Affairs, helping shape the Authority’s consumer protection and public awareness initiatives.

Before transitioning into the gaming regulatory sector, Kemorwale spent close to a decade in Botswana’s mining industry. He managed stakeholder relations, sustainability programmes and corporate communications.

His public sector experience also includes positions at the Directorate of Corruption and Economic Crime (DCEC) and the Botswana Agricultural Marketing Board. He is also widely recognised as a former presenter of Botswana Television’s Matlho-A-Phage programme.

Educational Background.

Armed with a Master of Business Administration, a Postgraduate Diploma in Management and additional professional training in leadership and responsible gambling, Kemorwale brings a blend of governance expertise and strategic management experience to the role.

Welcoming the appointment, Gambling Authority Board Chairperson Plato Gaoboi expressed confidence in the new CEO’s ability to drive the regulator’s long-term vision.

Mr Plato said, “The Board is confident that Mr. Kemorwale’s institutional knowledge, strategic acumen, and commitment to responsible gambling will steer the Authority toward greater impact. We congratulate him on this appointment and look forward to working with him as we strengthen regulation and stakeholder trust.”
