New Sun International CEO Ulrik Bengtsson takes up the reins
Sun International is pleased to announce that Ulrik Bengtsson has officially taken up the reins as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO).
Ulrik took up his new role on 1 July and spent his first day at the Sun International head office in Sandton greeting employees who were on hand to welcome him to the Sun International family.
Ulrik said he is looking forward to working closely with staff across the Group to write the next chapter of “this remarkable Sun International story”.
As a Swedish national, Ulrik is excited about discovering more about South Africa and over the next few weeks he will visit each Sun International property to “learn more about this iconic company, the people who make it so special, and the unique culture that defines Sun International”.

Ulrik also took the opportunity to thank his predecessor, Anthony Leeming, for his calm and steady stewardship, especially during the Covid pandemic. Anthony remains with the company until 31 December 2025 to ensure a smooth transition, and Ulrik expressed his gratitude to Anthony for his guidance and support over this period.
Ulrik brings a wealth of international gaming knowledge with him, having previously been the Group CEO of UK-based gaming group William Hill plc, where he turned the company around, and led the sale of the group to Caesars Entertainment Inc. in the US for £2.9 billion, and the subsequent sale of William Hill’s European assets to 888 Holdings Limited for €2.3 billion. He was also previously President and CEO of Swedish-listed online gaming group Betsson AB.
With nearly 20 years of leadership experience in gaming, betting, broadcasting, and telecoms, Ulrik has successfully scaled omnichannel businesses, driven business transformations, and spearheaded major acquisitions. Ulrik will deliver Sun International’s first results on Monday, 8 September.
