NGB Partners with WCGRB for Youth Outreach in Western Cape
The National Gambling Board (NGB) and the Western Cape Gambling & Racing Board (WCGRB) have partnered on a targeted youth outreach initiative in the Western Cape.
This collaborative effort features a five-day public education and outreach programme running from August 31 to September 4, 2026. During this period, representatives will visit various youth centres and TVET colleges across the province to advocate responsible gambling.
A key focus of the campaign is direct, face-to-face engagement. Regulators are connecting with local youth at community hubs, to promote responsible decision-making and raise awareness about the dangers of underage and risky gambling behaviors.

The schedule includes a session at the Waves of Change Youth Centre, a visit to Ithemba Labantu, an engagement at False Bay TVET College on Khayelitsha Campus, and another session at Ways of Change Youth Centre targeting young adults, while other venues are yet to be confirmed.
Ensuring a safe gambling environment requires ongoing oversight. The core role of the WCGRB is to regulate all gambling and racing activities within the Western Cape, fostering a stable, fair, and effective regulatory environment.
Beyond educational outreach, active enforcement is a vital component. The WCGRB’s Law Enforcement Unit conducts raids against illegal operators, seizing 8,904 items and destroying 8,120 to combat unlawful betting in the community.
For individuals seeking support, the board offers clear avenues for protection. This includes reporting illegal gambling, raising concerns about industry corruption, and accessing self-exclusion mechanisms and counseling services through the South African Responsible Gambling Foundation (SARGF).
