The National Lotteries and Gaming Regulatory Board Intensifies National Crackdown on Illegal Gaming with Operation “Mashine Haramu”

The National Lotteries and Gaming Regulatory Board (NLGRB), in close collaboration with the Uganda Police Force, has intensified its countrywide enforcement operation dabbed Operation “Mashine Haramu” targeting illegal gaming operators, manufacturers, and suppliers. The operation is part of NLGRB’s ongoing mandate to regulate the gaming industry, protecting the public from the adverse effects of gaming.

“Mashine Haramu,” a Swahili phrase meaning “illegal machines,” is a nationwide crackdown on unlicensed gaming activities, particularly the use of unauthorized gaming machines. These operations are intelligence-led, community informed, and enforcement driven aimed at eliminating illegal gaming from Ugandan communities.

In Kampala, NLGRB’s Enforcement and Investigation team acting on intelligence from an informant, carried out a successful sting operation in Lungujja, Kikandwa (Rubaga Division) where they apprehended Wadedeya Asuman 399 Slot machine motherboards ,15 Chinese-manufactured slot machines 2 Sacks containing assorted spare parts.

The suspect was apprehended from his shop and is currently detained at Central Police Station- CPS Kampala. He will be charged at Makindye Standards Court for making gaming and betting machines available for use a direct offense under the Lotteries and Gaming Act, Cap. 334.

The National Lotteries and Gaming Regulatory Board commends all informants and community members who share leads on illegal operators, manufacturers, and suppliers. Together, we can root them out and protect society.
