FinTech Giant Revolut to Launch a Physical Store in Barcelona and a Bank in South Africa!

Fintech giant Revolut is opening a flagship Barcelona store, bringing its digital ecosystem into a physical space to boost trust and visibility.

Revolut has confirmed plans to open its first permanent physical store in Barcelona described as “a permanent physical space in the heart of Barcelona” by the fintech – is its first foray into having a physical presence, having built its reputation on mobile-first banking.  Rather than replicating a traditional branch model, the company is positioning the location as an immersive brand environment.

Revolut representative said: “not be a temporary pop-up, but a permanent space. A high-visibility, immersive space that will bring our ecosystem to life”.

Revolut emphasized that the new store serve as a physical gateway into Revolut’s growing suite of services, which span payments, savings, crypto, trading, insurance and lifestyle features.

The Testbed that is Barcelona!

Barcelona has been selected as a testbed for this next phase of growth, reflecting both strategic and symbolic considerations.

Antoine Le Nel, Revolut’s Global CGO and CMO, said on LinkedIn: “We want to make financial innovation more accessible to the wider public and making it tangible is the best way to achieve that. Barcelona is the natural place to take this step. It brings together talent, innovation and an international mindset that closely align with how we build. That is why it has already established itself as our Tech Hub for Southern Europe. We’re excited to keep pushing the boundaries of a brand born in the digital world, bringing that same innovative ambition into the physical one.”

Revolut serves tens of millions of customers globally and continues to expand its product offering, the move shows that, as digital-first financial platforms mature, many are reassessing the role of physical presence in building trust and differentiation.

The South Africa Connection

Revolut is expanding its footprint in Africa, with plans to establish a bank in South Africa by 2026. This will significantly impact the iGaming industry by providing faster, more secure payment options. While offering instant, secure, and multi-currency transactions ideal for online gaming, Revolut also maintains strict anti-gambling features

As a “crypto-friendly” fintech, Revolut aims to be a top financial app in South Africa, a move likely to impact the local high-risk sector, including iGaming.
