Betway Clash of Legends 4th Edition is set for June 20 in Gaborone, supported by a P1.5 million sponsorship

The 4th edition of the Betway Clash of Legends is set to take place on June 20 at the National Stadium in Gaborone, marking its return as a premier one-day football exhibition in Southern Africa.

A sponsorship boost of P1.5 million from Betway was announced during a press conference at Cresta Lodge. The event brought together organizers, media, and football legends from both Botswana and South Africa, where details of the upcoming showcase were shared.

The tournament has evolved from its original “nation vs. nation” format into a high-stakes club-based rivalry. This year’s lineup features legendary former stars from four of the region’s most iconic clubs, South Africa’s Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates, and Botswana’s Township Rollers and Mochudi Centre Chiefs. Organizers emphasized that the event is more than just a game, aiming to unite fans through nostalgia and provide a rare opportunity to witness iconic footballers reunite in competitive action.

Beyond the entertainment on the pitch, the event serves as a significant charitable initiative. It is designed to raise funds for former athletes and ex-players living with disabilities, while participating legends will also conduct coaching clinics in local schools to inspire youth. A key addition to this year’s event is its role as a platform to promote responsible entertainment and social values, with the Gambling Authority of Botswana’s “Motshameko o Phepha” campaign emphasizing the responsible enjoyment of sporting events. Officials highlighted the importance of this event in advancing football development, entertainment, and community engagement across the region.
