Kenya’s Gaming Industry Wins Top Award For Player Safety Promotion Through Chukua Control Campaign

The Association of Gaming Operators Kenya (AGOK) has won an award for its proactive safe playing campaign dubbed ‘Chukua Control’ at the 2026 Gamble Alert Responsible Gaming Awards that were held in Lagos, Nigeria on Thursday evening.
AGOK was named as the Safer Gambling Champion, Industry Association Category at the ceremony which was held at the end of the Responsible Gaming Symposium. This year’s symposium theme was Building Accountability: Strengthening Africa’s Model for Player Protection.

“Responsible gaming initiatives are a collective effort between players, regulators, operators and game providers, and as AGOK we are pulling our weight,” said the CEO John Mutua.
“Our campaign is a long-term strategy deployed for sensitisation through designing messages that educate on potential risks as we also highlight the tools in place to assist those who may be in need of protection.”
The award recognises exceptional efforts and commitment made by the honoree in promoting responsible gaming practices and upholding regulatory standards in Africa. It is an acknowledgment by industry peers on the strong work AGOK is doing on player protection and ensuring long term business sustainability.
The annual symposium is dubbed as Nigeria’s premier event for gambling and regulation, industry standards and player protection. It brings together regulators, operators, policymakers and advocates across Africa.
The Chukua Control campaign was launched on 16th May 2025 as a project under AGOK’s media steering committee. It will feature a multi-agency approach, including collaboration with government agencies led by the Gambling Regulatory Authority, health industry stakeholders and player groups among others, seeking a wider reach to promote safer gaming practices.
Chukua Control intends to build a gaming community that makes informed choices for safer playing habits.
