NWGB Partners with SARF for Minor Intervention Programme at Ratheo Primary School

The North West Gambling Board (NWGB) recently partnered with the South African Responsibility Foundation (SARF) to host the Minor Intervention Programme at Ratheo Primary School during a Girl Guide Camp.
The key message of the programme emphasized that young girls are “enough” as they are and do not need to compromise their potential. By teaching participants that “Queens don’t gamble their future, they game for fun,” the NWGB and its partners highlighted the importance of avoiding underage gambling and the long-term threat of early addiction.
During the event, the board utilized a unique and interactive educational play featuring four chairs to communicate key concepts. Each chair represented a fundamental term in the gambling landscape, Luck, Risk, Chance, and Game. This creative approach was designed to help young girls understand the mechanics of gambling and the inherent dangers associated with taking unnecessary risks to please others or fit in.Â

This outreach reflects the North West Gambling Board’s ongoing commitment to equipping youth with the tools necessary for responsible decision-making and a strong sense of self-worth. Through these interventions, the NWGB continues to provide essential guidance to ensure that young people prioritize their education and future stability over the risks of gambling.
This initiative serves as a critical follow-up to the “Taking Risk Wisely” programme previously developed in collaboration with the school, aimed at safeguarding youth against the dangers of premature betting.
