On Wednesday, August 13, the Institute of Gambling Oversight (ISJ) of Angola hosted a high-level delegation from the Malawi Games and Lottery Authority (MAGLA) to discuss the future of the gaming and lottery sectors in both nations.Â
The meeting, led by ISJ Director-General Nerethz Tati and MAGLA Director-General Muchanankhwaye Mpuluka, served as a platform to share reflections on regulatory challenges and identify new opportunities for institutional cooperation.
A primary driver for this collaboration is the reality that a significant portion of gaming operators are common to both the Angolan and Malawian markets. Because these entities operate across borders, the ISJ and MAGLA highlighted the need for a more coordinated oversight strategy. By aligning their efforts, both administrations aim to ensure that these shared operators adhere to rigorous standards of transparency and legality.

The two entities used the opportunity to discuss the establishment of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to formalize their partnership. This agreement would focus on mutual technical assistance, enabling the exchange of vital resources such as regulatory documentation and procedures, standardized checklists for oversight, and the sharing of regulatory experiences and best practices.
By exchanging knowledge and strengthening administrative capacities, both the ISJ and MAGLA reaffirm their commitment to building a safer, more responsible, and integral gaming sector within their respective borders.
