NLA Donates L$152,000 to assist 56 students with physical disabilities at the University of Liberia

The National Lottery Authority (NLA) of Liberia has recently donated L$152,000 to assist 56 students with physical disabilities at the University of Liberia.

This financial assistance, provided by the management of the National Lottery Authority (NLA) under the NLA’s Education Empowerment Program (EEP), is aimed at supporting students with their registration fees and alleviating the financial challenges they face in pursuing higher education.

The presentation of the cheque took place on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, at the NLA’s Old Road Headquarters. Offered through the authority’s Departments of Corporate Social Responsibility and Social Welfare, the initiative aligns with a broader commitment to promoting inclusive education, equal opportunity, and social empowerment for vulnerable Liberians.

Now in its fourth year of implementation, the EEP specifically supports physically challenged students enrolled at public universities and community colleges across Liberia. By backing these students, the NLA continues to invest in education as a crucial instrument for empowerment, self-reliance, and national development.

During the presentation, Hon. Ennish Lamie Fahnbulleh, the NLA’s Deputy Director General for Administration, explained that this initiative reflects the core of the institution’s Corporate Social Responsibility agenda. He stated that the NLA’s contributions are intended to reach beyond its regulatory mandate to positively impact local communities and improve the daily lives of ordinary Liberians.

Physical disability should never be a barrier to accessing quality education or realizing one’s full potential,” Fahnbulleh emphasized. He reaffirmed the NLA’s determination to strengthen and expand social intervention programs that promote dignity, inclusion, and equal opportunities for persons living with disabilities.

Receiving the donation on behalf of the students, Madam Gertrude Weah Doelu, Administrative Assistant at the University of Liberia’s Resource Center for Disabilities Support Services and Alternative Learning, expressed deep appreciation for the NLA’s continued partnership. She commended the NLA for creating these essential pathways to educational support, noting that the assistance will significantly ease the burden associated with registration.

Madam Doelu assured the NLA management that the funds would be responsibly utilized for their intended purpose. She expressed strong confidence that this timely support would help the beneficiaries stay focused on their studies and successfully achieve their academic and professional goals.

Looking ahead, the NLA aims to sustain its backing of students across public institutions of higher learning, contributing to a more educated and inclusive Liberian society.
