The National Lottery Authority (NLA) has been crowned the champion of the 2026/2027 Inter-Governmental League football category following a dramatic final at the Samuel Kanyon Doe (SKD) Sports Complex.
The NLA secured its title with a tense 5–4 victory in a penalty shootout against the Liberia Petroleum Refining Company (LPRC) after both sides fought to a 0–0 draw through 90 minutes of regulation time.
The Intra-Governmental League (IGL) is an annual sporting competition designed to foster interaction and sportsmanship among various Liberian government institutions. The 2026 edition commenced on May 6, 2026, featuring competitions in both football and kickball. This year’s tournament saw participation from a wide range of agencies, including the Central Bank of Liberia (CBL), the Forestry Development Authority (FDA), and the Liberia Maritime Authority (LiMA), which entered the football category as the defending 2025 champions.

While the NLA took the top spot in football, the LPRC girls celebrated their own championship victory by winning the kickball category. In an entertaining final, the LPRC team defeated the Liberia Maritime Authority (LiMA) with a score of 8–6. This result allowed LPRC to finish the league campaign with a mix of success, claiming one championship trophy and one runner-up medal across the two major disciplines.
Crowned the champions of the 2026/2027 Inter-Governmental League football competition, the NLA’s victory not only reflects sporting excellence but also highlights the Authority’s commitment to teamwork, staff welfare, and positive engagement with other government institutions.
