NLA Launches Food Distribution Program for Vulnerable Groups in Montserrado County

The National Lottery Authority (NLA) has officially launched a large-scale food distribution program to support Persons Living with Disabilities (PWDs), orphanages, and elderly care homes across Montserrado County.

The initiative, launched by Director General Hon. Peter L. Solo on July 14, 2026, at the NLA’s Headquarters on the Old Road, was organized in observance of Liberia’s 179th Independence Day to ensure gaming industry proceeds are used for meaningful social interventions.

The program targets approximately 180 beneficiary institutions, including safe homes for vulnerable children, welfare centers, prisons, and community-based organizations. These groups will receive assorted food rations and selected non-food items as part of the Authority’s commitment to corporate social responsibility.

During the official launch ceremony at the NLA headquarters, Hon. Solo highlighted the symbolic importance of the distribution:

Today, we officially launch this year’s food distribution program to reaffirm our commitment to serving humanity. This initiative goes beyond the distribution of food; it symbolizes hope, solidarity and our determination to ensure that the benefits derived from the gaming industry are returned to the Liberian people, particularly those who need them the most,” Solo stated.

In addition to the immediate relief of food supplies, the Director General announced that the NLA intends to provide tuition assistance to students living with disabilities who are enrolled at the State University and various community colleges. Solo described education as the “greatest equalizer” and a primary pathway toward empowerment and self-reliance.

Education is the greatest equalizer. We believe that no capable Liberian should be denied access to higher education because of financial challenges. Through this support, we hope to empower students living with disabilities to pursue their academic aspirations and contribute meaningfully to national development,” he added.

The NLA has called upon all recipient organizations to maintain high standards of transparency and accountability to ensure the donated items reach the intended individuals. The initiative concludes with a reaffirmation of the NLA’s mission to promote responsible gaming while utilizing its resources to improve the lives of underserved Liberians and contribute to national development.
