KCB Rugby Claims Historic Sixth SportPesa 7s Championship Title
KCB Rugby made history by securing a record sixth SportPesa 7s national title, topping the 2026 overall circuit standings with 115 points.
SportPesa officially launched its title sponsorship of the 2026 National Sevens Circuit at the RFUEA Grounds in Nairobi on Wednesday, June 17. Sponsoring the premier club rugby competition for the fourth consecutive year, the company unveiled a KSh 34.14 million package, more than double its investment in the previous season.
The six-leg circuit kicked off in July with the Prinsloo 7s and concluded on Sunday, 13 September 2026, with the Christie 7s at the RFUEA Grounds. The overall title was decided at the final leg, where KCB entered the weekend with a narrow six-point lead over Kabras Sugar, 98 points to 92. Kabras needed to reach the Cup final to overturn the deficit and claim the championship.

However, both heavyweights stumbled in the Cup semifinals: KCB fell 19–12 to Strathmore Leos, while Kabras Sugar lost 20–10 to Menengai Oilers in the Rai Derby. Kabras’ semifinal defeat meant KCB mathematically clinched the overall championship before taking the pitch for their final match.
Despite having secured the title, Andrew Amonde’s squad showed their championship mettle in the third-place playoff against Kabras Sugar. After regulation time ended in a deadlock, the match went into extra time, where George Ooro scored the winning try to give KCB a 5–0 victory. Menengai Oilers went on to win the Christie 7s leg, defeating Strathmore Leos 24–12 in the final.
The triumph marked KCB’s sixth national sevens title, adding to their previous victories in 2013, 2014, 2019, 2023 and 2025. With six championships, KCB moved ahead of rivals Kenya Harlequins, Mwamba and Impala, who each held four titles.
