Africa Safer Gambling Week 2026 to Unite Regulators and Industry Around Player Protection Across the Continent
The African iGaming Alliance (AiA), working alongside gambling regulators, industry associations and other stakeholders across the continent, will host the inaugural Africa Safer Gambling Week from 7–11 September 2026, a coordinated initiative aimed at promoting safer gambling, strengthening player protection and increasing public awareness across African gambling markets.
Africa Safer Gambling Week will bring together regulators and industry stakeholders around a common objective: ensuring that the continued growth of Africa’s gambling sector is accompanied by effective consumer protection, responsible gambling practices and greater public awareness.
Under the campaign banner #PlaySafeAfrica, the week will feature a coordinated programme of regulatory and industry engagement, public education, and digital awareness activities across participating African jurisdictions.
Activities during the week will include a formal launch and media engagement, a five-day public awareness campaign, community outreach initiatives, and a continental webinar bringing together regulators and industry stakeholders.
Each day will focus on a specific aspect of safer gambling, including responsible gambling, understanding and setting personal limits, the use of responsible gambling tools, preventing underage gambling, and raising awareness of the risks posed by illegal and unlicensed gambling operators.

Africa Safer Gambling Week will provide participating jurisdictions with coordinated campaign materials while allowing regulators to tailor public messaging and activities to their respective markets and local communities.
The initiative will also emphasise the importance of directing consumers towards licensed and regulated gambling operators. Illegal and unlicensed gambling can undermine responsible gambling safeguards, consumer protection measures and regulatory oversight, leaving players with significantly fewer protections when problems arise.
The AiA believes that collaboration between regulators, licensed operators, trade associations, and responsible gambling organisations will be critical as African gambling markets continue to develop.
Africa Safer Gambling Week is intended to become an annual platform through which stakeholders can strengthen cooperation, share good practices, and keep safer gambling and player protection at the centre of the continent’s gambling policy agenda.
