betPawa Seals ₦494 Million Sponsorship Deal with NNL to Transform Nigerian Football

The Nigeria National League (NNL) has secured a one-year sponsorship deal worth over ₦494.4 million with betPawa, marking a significant milestone in advancing Nigerian football. The partnership, unveiled on Wednesday, September 24, in Abuja under the theme “Investing in the Future of African Sports,” introduces an innovative funding model designed to directly benefit players while strengthening club and league finances.

Central to this is the Locker Room Bonus, a first-of-its-kind initiative that rewards 20 registered players and three technical staff members from each squad with ₦1.288 million for every win, with players instantly receiving ₦56,000 through a digital platform. Additionally, the NNL will earn ₦400,000 per weekend match, creating a sustainable system that supports both athletes and league operations

Borah Omary Ndanyungu, Head of Local Marketing & CSR at betPawa, explained, “We’re not just handing out cash; we’re building a system that elevates Nigerian football. This platform ensures players are respected and rewarded for their hard work — with no delays, no drama”

Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau, President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), described the move as a game changer in terms of maintaining talent within the domestic league. “One of my biggest concerns has been keeping our best players in the league. This is the way forward, and it will have a positive impact on the growth of the game in Nigeria.”

NNL Chairman George Aluo praised the NFF’s dedication to grassroots football, citing the gradual growth of NNL clubs into the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL). 

“This partnership will inspire players to give their best and will have a ricocheting effect on the league and the overall development of the game,” commented Philip Shaibu, Director-General of the National Institute of Sports (NIS).
