Gambling Machines Destroyed in South Africa

Every year, illegal gambling defrauds the South African economy of billions of rands in taxes. As a result, 240 illegal gaming machines were destroyed by Rodgers Monama, MEC for Limpopo Economic Development, Environment, and Tourism (LEDET). Gambling Machines Destroyed South Africa

The unlawful gaming machines were taken from bars with expired licenses and spaza stores held by foreign immigrants in remote areas.

Limpopo Gambling Board and the police led the operation.

According to MEC Monama, 382 illegal slot machines were destroyed during the 2022–23 fiscal year, including 156 in July and 226 in November.

The illegal gambling machines rob the provincial fiscus of the much-needed revenue as the generated income fund other criminal activities such as illegal mining, human trafficking, and illegal cigarettes. In other instances, the cash generated is transferred to other provinces and even outside the borders of South Africa.

said Monama.

He claimed that the rise in illegal gaming machine ownership is concerning.

It has been discovered that slot machines are delivered to spaza stores in townships and villages, particularly in the evening. Gambling Machines Destroyed South Africa

Monama has urged the residents of Limpopo to only utilize licensed or authorized gaming and gambling establishments because those businesses finance illegal cigarette sales and criminal activity.

Such funds are also transferred outside the borders of South Africa illegally and, as such, impacts negatively on our economy.

said the MEC.
