North West Gambling Board Empowers Marikana Community
The North West Gambling Board (NWGB) recently made a meaningful contribution to community development by participating in the Thuntsha Lerole Accelerated Service Delivery Programme.
This event, held at the Braampie Sports Ground in Marikana, provided an opportunity for the board to engage directly with residents and support local sustainable initiatives.
A key aspect of the NWGB’s involvement was an educational outreach aimed at fostering a healthier community environment. Officials shared vital information with community members on responsible gambling practices, strategies to curb illegal gambling, and the importance of preventing underage gambling. This effort underscores the board’s ongoing commitment to ensuring that gambling activities within the province are safe and properly regulated.

In addition to educational initiatives, the NWGB demonstrated its dedication to local welfare through a generous donation to Ipeleng Home for All, an NGO focused on food security. The organization plays a crucial role in Marikana by cultivating a variety of produce, including cabbage, green peppers, spinach, broccoli, sweet potatoes, and beetroot, to support the local population.
The donation included essential gardening items such as a durable JoJo tank for water storage, a sturdy gardening net, hosepipes for efficient watering, essential personal protective equipment (PPE) to ensure safety, comfortable sun hats to shield from the sun, watering cans, wheelbarrows, shovels for digging, spade forks, and a variety of vegetable seeds.
This contribution goes beyond mere donation as it represents a strategic investment in sustainable, community-driven projects. By combining regulatory responsibilities with social responsibility, the North West Gambling Board continues to promote a safer environment while fostering positive change and nourishment for the people of Marikana.
