Gambling Regulatory Authority of Kenya Opens Recruitment for Director General/CEO

The Gambling Regulatory Authority of Kenya has announced a vacancy for the position of Director General/CEO. The notice, published on 23rd January 2026, signals a key leadership opening at the national gambling regulator.
The Authority was established under the Gambling Control Act, 2025 and is responsible for regulating and overseeing gambling activities across the country. Its mandate includes licensing approved forms of gambling, shutting down illegal operations, and ensuring the industry operates fairly and responsibly. A major focus of the regulator’s work is reducing social harm linked to gambling while safeguarding public interest.
According to the advertisement, the Authority is seeking a visionary and results-oriented leader to steer its strategic direction. The successful candidate will be expected to provide strong leadership to both senior management and staff while ensuring the organisation delivers on its statutory mandate.
As the CEO, the Director General will be responsible for the overall management of the Authority. This includes policy formulation, operational oversight, and implementation of decisions made by the Board of Directors. The office holder will also be accountable for the Authority’s day-to-day operations and for ensuring that its objectives are achieved in a timely and effective manner.
Other responsibilities include overseeing staff performance, maintaining proper records, preparing annual budgets, and establishing strong internal control systems. The Director General will also lead the development and execution of the Authority’s strategic plan, annual business plan, and operational work programmes.

To qualify for the position, applicants must be Kenyan citizens and hold a degree from a university recognised in Kenya. Candidates are also required to have at least ten years of senior management experience in either the public or private sector and must meet the integrity standards outlined in Chapter Six of the Constitution.
The appointment will be for a three-year term, with the possibility of renewal for one additional term based on performance. Terms and conditions of service will be set by the Board of Directors in consultation with the Salaries and Remuneration Commission.
Applications must be submitted in sealed envelopes clearly marked for the position and delivered to the Authority’s offices in Nairobi no later than 6th February 2026 at 5:00 pm. Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted. The Authority has also warned that canvassing, whether direct or indirect, will lead to automatic disqualification.
