Industry turns out in force as 130 runners and golfers raise £50,000 for the CHIPS charity

The gambling industry has demonstrated both its generosity and its sporting prowess with golfers and runners raising a total of £50,000 for CHIPS charity in the space of four-weeks. The sum will help CHIPS purchase at least six bespoke wheelchairs, transforming the lives of recipient youngsters and their families.

In September a total of 111 golfers representing 17 companies took part in the annual CHIPS charity golf day, helping to raise over £41,000to purchase wheelchairs for young people with profound mobility issues. Staged at the prestigious Woburn Golf Club which has held over 60 professional tournaments, the CHIPS trophy was won by Genting UK’s Paul Willcock, Tony Pearce, John Liddle and Glen Garton.

A month later 20-runners from GentingUK, WorldGaming, Better Change, The Betting and Gaming Council, Game Nation and Metropolitan Casinos completed the Royal Parks Half Marathon raising £9,000 in sponsorship for CHIPS.

Reflecting on the huge support shown by industry professionals, companies and sponsors CHIPS co-founder and Trustee Linda Lindsay said: “CHIPS was born out of the gambling industry and since its formation has raised in excess of an amazing £4.5m to fund the purchase of bespoke powered wheelchairs for young people.

“At every presentation when we handover the CHIPS chair the response from the youngster and his/her family is the same: pure and unadulterated joy at being given the freedom that most of us quite understandably take for granted.

“The fabulous news is that with the outstanding chairs that we have on order plus the funds raised at our Golf Day and the Half Marathon sponsorships we are on course to celebrate our 800th wheelchair presentation around the time that the industry meets at ICE Barcelona.

“At a time when detractors are so dismissive of the business, I would like to point out that absolutely none of this would have been possible, without the compassion and the support received from the gambling industry.

“When it comes to fundraising, every single penny and every single cent counts – which is why I’m so proud to confirm that none of the CHIPS Trustees receive anything in expenses – it all goes towards the purchase of more wheelchairs and our commitment to transform lives.”
