ITHUBA Uganda Empowers Boda Boda Riders Through New Entrepreneurship Programme

ITHUBA Uganda has rolled out a Corporate Social Investment (CSI) Empowerment Programme aimed at supporting boda boda riders to grow as entrepreneurs. The initiative focuses on providing digital training, business skills, and new income opportunities through the sale of National Lottery tickets.

Launched in collaboration with the Boda Boda Association of Uganda, the programme seeks to help riders strengthen their financial independence by turning their side activities into profitable ventures. Participants will receive tailored training, be registered as lottery agents, and have the opportunity to earn commissions while continuing their daily transport work.

“At ITHUBA, we believe true empowerment is not about giving handouts — it’s about creating opportunity,” said Bob Kabenaro, Chairman of ITHUBA Uganda. “This programme gives riders the skills, tools, and support to build sustainable income. It is about transforming potential into progress, and dignity into prosperity.”

Eric Mabuza Jnr., General Manager of ITHUBA Uganda, emphasized that the initiative is about long-term economic inclusion. “The National Lottery is more than entertainment — it’s a vehicle for impact. We’re turning everyday Ugandans into partners in progress,” he said.

At the centre of the initiative is Lottery Xpress, ITHUBA’s digital platform that enables anyone with a smartphone to become a lottery agent. “It’s simple, fast, and accessible — allowing micro-entrepreneurs to earn income while connecting more people to the National Lottery network,” explained Lottery Specialist Gys Potgieter.

ITHUBA also unveiled TAANO TAANO, a quick-play lottery game with draws every five minutes and tickets starting at Shs100. The new game aims to offer affordable entertainment while supporting the growth of Uganda’s lottery ecosystem and creating economic opportunities at the community level.

Through this empowerment drive, ITHUBA Uganda is reinforcing its mission to promote social innovation, entrepreneurship, and inclusive development.

The company operates under the oversight of the National Lotteries and Gaming Regulatory Board and holds a 10-year license granted by Finance Minister Matia Kasaija to manage the Uganda National Lottery.
