This strategic visit is a critical component of Kenya’s ongoing process to operationalize its National Lottery, leveraging the experiences of regional neighbors to build a robust framework.

The NLGRB hosted the Kenyan delegation, led by Board Member Catherine Ochanda and Acting CEO Dr. Martin Talian, PhD, OGW, and met with their Ugandan counterparts. Representing NLGRB Board Chairman Kenneth Kitariko, Director William Blick, along with CEO Denis Mudene Ngabirano, emphasized that effective gaming and lottery regulation are rooted in regional cooperation, information sharing, and ongoing engagement among regulators.

The discussions covered the essential pillars of a successful lottery system, including governance and licensing, market oversight and operations, revenue assurance, and communication and public benefit frameworks, as well as strategic planning to ensure the lottery serves the greater public good.

The primary goal of this engagement was to provide a platform for both institutions to share practical lessons and experiences. Ms. Ochanda expressed deep appreciation for the openness of the Ugandan board, noting that such transparency is vital as Kenya affirms its commitment to collaborating on gaming sector matters. By examining Uganda’s existing structures, the NLB aims to build a lottery system in Kenya that is grounded in transparency, accountability, and impactful results.
