NLC’s Funding for Impact Initiative Supports 500+ in Mpumalanga & Limpopo

The National Lotteries Commission (NLC), in partnership with the South African Red Cross Society, has expanded its humanitarian response across Mpumalanga and Limpopo under the “Funding for Impact” initiative.

Powered by NLC research-based funding, the initiative delivers emergency relief parcels and essential supplies to flood-affected families and vulnerable community members across several rural districts.

In Limpopo, the initiative provided relief across several communities in the Vhembe District. On 15 October 2026, 100 beneficiaries in Chavani Village, Makhado Municipality, received relief parcels at the Fountain of Life Christian Centre in Ward 13. The handover was attended by representatives of the South African Red Cross Society in Limpopo and the NLC, as well as Headman Mr. Masungu Mukhari and Ward Councillor Cllr. Phillip Makhubele.

On 16 and 19 October, a distribution in Musina Local Municipality reached 331 beneficiaries across 16 communities. They include Nancefield, Musina Disability Centre, Tshikhundini, Madimbo, Bale, Gumbu, Tshenzhelani, Masisi, Tshivaloni, Dovho, Tshilamusi, Duluthulu, Bennde-Mutale, Mutele, Malale, and Muswodi Dipeni. Red Cross Limpopo, the NLC, and Department of Social Development (DSD) officials, led by Social Work Supervisor Mr. Ernest Sirwali, supported the outreach.

In Mpumalanga, the initiative targeted flood-affected households and rural communities. Relief parcels were distributed at the Department of Social Development offices in Hluvukani, Bushbuckridge Local Municipality, to support families affected by recent flooding in Mpumalanga and Limpopo. The handover was attended by MEC for Social Development Hon. N.E. Hlophe, the MMC of Bushbuckridge Local Municipality, and representatives of the Red Cross Society and the NLC.

On 20 October 2026, humanitarian relief supplies reached 100 beneficiaries in Kwa-Ngema Village, Mkhondo Local Municipality. The handover brought together MEC N.E. Hlophe (DSD), MMC J. Nkosi (Mkhondo Local Municipality), municipal officials, the NLC, and Mpumalanga Red Cross leadership.

By combining research-based funding with direct engagement with traditional leaders and local government, the NLC and the South African Red Cross Society continue to strengthen grassroots support systems and ensure timely assistance reaches vulnerable communities when they need it most.
