PawaPay Receives Payment Service Provider (PSP) Authorization from the Central Bank of Kenya

PawaPay Group company’s Quidexplus Kenya Limited has received authorisation as a Payment Service Provider (PSP) from the Central Bank of Kenya to provide Payment Gateway services for receiving, processing, and settling payments on behalf of merchants within the market.

For PawaPay, securing this PSP licence represents a strategic step in its long-term investment in Kenya and its ongoing development of regulated payment systems across the continent.

PawaPay provides businesses with a single point of access to African mobile money networks through one integration, a single API, and a single contract. Under this unified model, PawaPay directly manages local payment connections, regulatory compliance, treasury operations, and merchant settlements across multiple African jurisdictions.

This milestone builds upon PawaPay’s scaling momentum, having surpassed three billion successful mobile money transactions, with daily volume more than doubling in June 2026.

David Kanyora, Regional Director, East and Southern Africa, noted that obtaining the licence marks an important milestone for the firm:

Kenya is one of the world’s most established mobile money markets, so receiving this authorisation is a significant milestone for PawaPay.

It strengthens our regulated presence in Kenya and enhances our ability to support businesses accepting mobile money payments in the market. For businesses operating across multiple African markets, Kenya can form part of the wider mobile money access we provide through PawaPay.”

By expanding its regulated presence in Kenya, PawaPay continues to invest in the underlying infrastructure businesses need to access mobile money across African markets.
