In honor of this awareness month, The Hollywood Foundation is once again collaborating with the South African Responsible Gambling Foundation (SARGF). This partnership aims to address the issue of underage gambling by implementing a school program led by the SARGF.
The program will extend its reach to 65 schools spanning all nine provinces in South Africa. Additionally, it will provide sponsorship for two counselors who will be available to offer support and assistance to callers facing gambling-related issues on a daily basis for an entire year.
According to Vuyisile Ngobese, Hollywood Foundation’s Public Relations Officer, the initiatives offered through SARGF’s National Responsible Gambling Programme (NRGP) are essential for individuals facing difficulties with gambling. We are proud to stand alongside the South African Responsible Gambling Foundation in our collective mission. Through the National Responsible Gambling Programme, we are affirming our commitment to empowering community members.
She adds.
The Hollywood Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to community welfare, is committed to improving the NRGP by ensuring the accessibility of counselors to provide assistance.
The aim of the counselors is to advocate for responsible gambling in diverse communities through the provision of expert, private, and cost-free assistance. They will offer various services, such as conducting an initial assessment to determine the appropriate referral, connecting individuals with nearby treatment professionals, conducting cognitive assessments with the professionals, and evaluating and implementing necessary treatment options for callers seeking help.
SARGF is delighted and thankful to see the Hollywood Foundation being proactive in working with the NRGP beyond license conditions. The contribution made by the Hollywood Foundation is a first of its kind and will go a long way in the NRGP’s quest to educate, prevent, treat, and provide counselling to South Africans impacted by the potential harmful effects of disorder gambling,”
said Sibongile Simelane-Quntana, SARGF Executive Director.
