SARGF, Limpopo Gambling Board and Hollywood Foundation Educate Learners on Gambling Risks

The South African Responsible Gambling Foundation (SARGF), through the National Responsible Gambling Programme (NRGP), has recently intensified its outreach efforts in the Limpopo province. By partnering with provincial regulators and community leaders, the foundation is working to foster a culture of responsible gambling and mitigate potential harm across different sectors of society.
The focus of the initiative is the launch of the “Taking Risks Wisely” program. In collaboration with the Limpopo Gambling Board and the Hollywood Foundation, the SARGF is visiting schools to engage directly with learners. The primary objective of this program is to educate children about the potential harmful effects of gambling, ensuring they understand the risks associated with such activities from an early age.
Additionally, SARGF extended its reach to the spiritual heart of the community by participating in the Methodist Church of South Africa (MCSA) Limpopo District Annual Clergy Convocation. Alongside the Mpumalanga Economic Regulator, the NRGP delivered a presentation focused on the Church’s unique position in addressing gambling-related issues.
The key themes of the presentation included how religious institutions can help reduce harm by acting as a buffer against the negative effects of gambling. It also focused on raising awareness within communities about responsible gambling practices and providing clergy with the tools and knowledge to support and guide those who are struggling with gambling harm.

By bridging the gap between regulatory bodies, educational institutions, and faith-based organizations, the SARGF is building a comprehensive support network in Limpopo. This collaborative approach ensures that the message of “taking risks wisely” reaches both the youth and community leaders who are best positioned to offer long-term guidance and education.
Through these ongoing efforts, the foundation continues to champion the importance of informed decision-making and community-wide awareness in the fight against gambling harm.
