Sizekhaya Officially Kicks Off Its Operations In South Africa

The South African National lottery has entered a new era. Sizekhaya officially assuming responsibility as the country’s fourth operator from Monday, 1 June.
The National Lotteries Commission (NLC) welcomed the transition. They described it as an important milestone for one of the country’s most significant public assets. The S.A Lottery offers players the opportunity to win life-changing prizes. They as well play a vital role in supporting social development, community upliftment and charitable initiatives across South Africa.
NLC Board chairman Professor Barney Pityana said the transition marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter. He said,“The national lottery is far more than a game of chance. It’s a powerful instrument for social development and nation-building. Through the National Lotteries Distribution Trust Fund, billions of rands have been directed towards charitable causes, sport and recreation, arts, culture, heritage, and community development initiatives that continue to transform lives across the country.”

The NLC is encouraged by Sizekhaya plans to modernise the lottery. The firm will embrace technological innovation, improved accessibility and an enhanced customer experience. According to Pityana, these developments have the potential to attract greater participation. Thus ultimately increasing the funds available for projects that support vulnerable communities and create opportunities for South Africans.
“We’re encouraged by Sizekhaya’s commitment to innovation and improving the lottery experience. Increased participation means more funding directed towards initiatives that uplift communities and change lives,” he said.
As regulator of the national lottery, the NLC emphasized that it will continue to provide strong oversight to ensure the lottery operates with integrity, transparency and accountability. The commission said safeguarding public trust remains a top priority and that all operations must remain fully compliant with the Lotteries Act.
“As we enter this new era, our focus remains on protecting the integrity of the National Lottery. Safeguarding the interests of players and ensuring that proceeds continue to make a meaningful difference in communities across South Africa,” added Pityana.
Since its inception, the national lottery has distributed more than R30 billion to good causes, making it one of South Africa’s largest contributors to community development projects.
